Therapeutic Riding Horses
A therapy horse needs to be safe, predictable, and healthy. He must also be tolerant of unpredictable noises and rider actions, and responsive to his handlers.
Our horses are pastured 24/7 with access to shelter, and receive regular barefoot hoof trims.
Willard
Willard used to participate in the Mountain Pathways program. He is a stocky Quarter Horse with a sweet nature and practical attitude. Please chack back for pictures.
Slick
Slick is a 1998 AQHA gelding with extensive Parelli Natural Horsemanship experience. He is a calm horse who's willing to move and respond when asked.
Smurf
Smurf is a 1985 Welsh pony cross. She was used in the Mountain Pathways Therapeutic Riding program for several years, and has come out of a 2 year retirement. Smurf has a calm and sweet disposition and is also not shy about expressing her opinions. She has moderate ringbone, and is currently wearing a grazing muzzle during the day to help get her weight down.
Rocky
Rocky is a 2002 AQHA gelding trained for showing and western pleasure. He has slight navicular syndrome, but is a willing and easygoing horse experienced with young riders. Our natural hoof trimmer is working to improve Rocky's condition. Rocky participated in the program for the first time on June 20, 2009 after a 3 week evaluation and settling in period.
Thunder
Sadly, Thunder passed away March 1, 2010 of cancer. He was loved and will be missed.
Thunder was a 1985 Belgian gelding brought to the program some Saturdays by his owner, a High Ridge volunteer. Thunder was willing, and had a big walk and trot. He was a true horse ambassador - giving many adults and children their first horse experience, and helping them learn to connect with and appreciate horses.
Nugget
Nugget is a 1987 grade quarter horse mare. She was on loan to High Ridge for the 2008 Summer lesson season. Nugget is an experienced trail and arena horse with a laid back, but willing attitude.
